Yaroslav Ivanenko is from Kiev, in the Ukraine. He received his dance education at the National Conservatory for the Arts in Kiev and joined the company of the National Theater. Engagements followed in the Czech Republic and the Slovakian National Theater. He has been a member of the Hamburg Ballet since 1998 where he has danced many solo roles and toured internationally. As a choreographer, Mr. Ivanenko has worked consistently at developing his own uniquely athletic style evolving out of his background as a classically trained ballet dancer. He has specialized in creative collaborations with musical ensembles, including many works for chamber music groups and music festivals, and has earned prizes and acclaim at international choreographic competitions as well.

He received "Special Mention of the Jury" in the Prix Dom Perignon in 1999 for "Somewhere I got lost..." In 2001 he won the Prix Dom Pérignon "Public´s Choice Prize" for "Morning Prayers." Two commissioned solos, "Visual Soundtrack" and "Impression," were awarded diplomas at the 6th Serge Lifar International Dance Competition in Kiev. In 2003 he was a finalist in the 7th International Solo-Dance Theatre Festival in Stuttgart. "Ne m'oublie pas" was a finalist at the 20th International Choreographic Competition in Hannover and was also performed at the Hamburg Ballet's annual Nijinsky Gala.

Mr. Ivanenko has been commissioned by: The State Theater in Kosice, Slovakia for an original work entitled "Firebird", with music by Giya Kancheli. Summer 2005, he collaborated with the Vertavo Quartet, from Oslo. Sibelius's "Voces Intimae" was made for the 6oth anniversary of the "Musiktage" in Hitzacker, Germany. November 2006: the cultural ministry of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, ProMV commissioned Ivanenko for an evening of dance in Rostock. Also in 2006, Yaroslav was invited back to the Musiktage in Hitzacker to create two new commissioned works; song cycles of Benjamin Britten, "Illuminations" and "Serenade" and again in 2009 for a collaboration with the Ensemble Resonanz and Ensemble Sarband. For BalletTech Cincinnati he choreographed "Just Like That" for an international gala.

At the Hamburg City Hall, June 7th, 2007: "Unassuming Sonata" was choreographed in honor of the occasion of John Neumeier becoming an Honorary Citizen of the city of Hamburg.

A short film called "Arise" was made in Japan of a solo he choreographed to music composed by Masato Hatanaka.

Yaroslav helped produce the children's charity performance "Rendez-Vous" in the Opera Stabile, Hamburg, which took its name from the piece he created for the program.

Invited for guest appearances as a choreographer and a dancer, his works have been performed throughout the world: England, United States, Japan, Ukraine, Portugal, Germany. Yaroslav's choreography had its debut in the United States at the Dance Salad Festival in Houston, Texas, in March 2008 to much acclaim.
